As I mentioned in my last post (link here), I am getting back into my custom palette after neglecting it for a long time. I have made the decision to focus on my custom palette and not get swept up in the new eyeshadow palette launches. I would much rather pay a bit more for each shade but know that I will definitely use it. The only singles I have so far are by MAC and whilst the quality is okay, I would rather pay the same (or less) for better quality shadows.
This brings me onto the haul. I have never tried Makeup Geek shadows before but it seemed like the place to go for single shadows since everyone raves about them. They are supposedly amazing quality, under £10 (£4.95 for the standard and the duo-chrome shadows and £7.95 for the foiled shadows) and have an endless amount of shades. I knew I wanted to get some essential shades at first because neutrals are my comfort zone and it seemed like a good way to introduce myself to the formula and brand.
The shades I picked are; Peach Smoothie, Creme Brulee, Cocoa Bear, Rapunzel and Pocket Change. You probably recognise a lot of those shades because a lot of them are cult faves. I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about and discover for myself why these shades in particular are the ones that everyone loves.
I can’t wait to start playing around with these. I am writing this on the same day that I have received them so I haven’t had a chance to play with them on my eyes yet. But from swatching them, the mattes feel really creamy (Peach Smoothie, Creme Brulee and Cocoa Bear) with just the right amount of pigmentation for me and the shimmers (Rapunzel and Pocket Change) are very pigmented, creamy and catch the light beautifully. They feel just as good, if not better than my MAC shades, which is amazing for half the price! They are also cruelty free which is a great bonus.
I feel like I have picked up a great variety of shades for an entire eye look, which makes me excited to use these shades together and also in conjunction with other eyeshadows and palettes too. I can’t wait to start playing around with these!!
So there was my Makeup Geek haul! If you guys have any recommendations for shades and brands of single shadows I would love to know! I can’t wait to keep building on my collection in the future to create my perfect palette.
